2. What are the types of questions on the assessments?
Each assessment, including Grades 3–8 EndofGrade (EOG) and North Carolina Math I EndofCourse (EOC), has both calculator active and calculator inactive sections. Questions for EOG grades 3 and 4 are all multiplechoice questions. Grades 5 through 8 EOG assessments and the North Carolina Math I EOC assessment will include some constructedresponse questions (also referred to as gridins) in the calculator inactive section. Questions on the calculator active section are all multiplechoice. All of the constructedresponse questions have a single numeric answer. Students taking a paperpencil version of the test will grid in the answers, while students testing on line will enter the answer in a text box.

5. How much time do students have for the assessment?
For the EOC Math I general assessment, the estimated testing time isa little over 3 hours; the maximum time without accommodations is 4 hours.
6. Do any of the assessments extend past one day?
Both the EOG and EOC mathematics assessments are to be given in one day, unless the student has documented special needs requiring accommodation, such as Multiple Testing Sessions.
7. How do students proceed from the calculator inactive section to the calculator active section?
Students will take the calculator inactive section before the calculator active section. As each student completes the calculator inactive section, he or she will request a calculator from the administrator and continue with the calculator active section. The Assessment Guide provides details for the transition.
8. For Math I, which standards are assessed?

10. What assessment(s) are required for eighthgrade students who take high school mathematics?
Eighthgrade students taking one of the firstyear high school mathematics courses (Math I) are required to take both the grade 8 EOG assessment and the North Carolina Math I EOC assessment.
11. What manipulatives will be available to students?
Students will be provided with blank paper and graph paper. They will not be permitted to use rulers or protractors.
