Onslow County Schools’ Board of Education Chair Pam Thomas was named Woman of the Year during the 74th Annual Jacksonville Onslow Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Celebration Feb. 8.

She was included among several distinguished honorees for their dedication and service to the Onslow community.  The prestigious honor was presented by Ann Raymond, the 2016 Woman of the Year.  She said, “This award honors a woman who has achieved the highest level of professional accomplishments and has devoted her time and energy to the betterment of our area.”

It was noted that Thomas earned two college degrees and has served on the OCS Board of Education since 2004.  She has been in the field of education for the past 48 years having served as a teacher, coach, and supervisor.  She is currently a part-time faculty member at UNCW.  In addition to her duties as OCS Board of Education Chair and education advocate, she is actively involved in other community organizations including the Jacksonville Breakfast Rotary Club, Onslow Community Outreach, and the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation.  She serves on the SAT Board of Directors, Head Start Policy Council, and is on the Continuous Improvement Performance Plan Stakeholders Committee.
