Thirty-One OCS Staff First in NC to Complete NCASBO Treasurer Academy Certification

 School Treasurers Receive Certification
School Treasurers Receive Certification

Onslow County Schools is pleased to announce 31 of its school treasurers were the first in North Carolina to receive School Treasurer Academy Certification from the North Carolina Association of School Business Officers.

NCASBO is the only statewide association in North Carolina devoted to school business.  It offers many professional development activities.  NCASBO developed the Treasury Academy Certification program as a continuation and expansion of the NCASBO School Business Management Academy.  It was felt by the Association that the school treasurers should be the first group of the expansion, as treasurers in the school interact so frequently and importantly with the school business offices of the school systems.

The School Treasurer Academy program is comprised of 12 courses including School Finance Law and Internal Controls; General Accounting Concepts; Cash Receipts; Purchasing and Disbursements; Human Resource and Payroll Management; Ethics, Fraud, and Audits; Special Topics in Financial Management; Sales and Use Tax; Effective Communication; Handling Difficult People; Customer Service; and Time Management and Problem Solving.

The graduating class received their framed certificates January 24, 2018 from Onslow County Schools’ Chief Financial Officer Jeffery Hollamon, Associate Superintendent Dr. Barry Collins, Internal Auditor Cheryl DesRoche, and Deputy Finance Officer Cathy Lanier.

Hollamon, who was instrumental in developing the program and curriculum, addressed the group and said, “Onslow County Schools was a pioneer in getting this academy going and participating in this program, now you are heads and shoulders above all others, and leading the way.”
