Silverdale Elementary has proven its continued commitment to The Leader in Me process, having recently received its highest national honor — recertification as a Lighthouse School.

Worldwide there are only 338 schools who put in the work and earned this designation.  These schools completed the entire two-year training regimen for The Leader in Me, and went through an extensive on-site review by FranklinCovey to ensure the fidelity of implementation.

The Leader in Me Lighthouse School title was first awarded to Silverdale by FranklinCovey on April 29, 2015.  At that time, they were one of four school in North Carolina and one of 126 schools nationwide to be earn the designation.

The Leader in Me is a process designed to enhance students’ life skills and workforce readiness. The process directly impacts staff effectiveness and engagement, and creates a safe and vibrant learning environment. Through this process the staff and students at Silverdale have chosen to “Stand tall, shine bright and be leaders lighting the way.” Each year the school hosts its Annual Leadership Day event. Leadership Day allows the community to see the extraordinary things happening at the school. Silverdale staff continues to build a unique environment where the principles, practices and habits of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are embedded into the school’s culture. The Leader in Me process and philosophy defines the school’s operations, permeates instructional practice and curriculum, and is the basis of a vibrant leadership development approach for both students and staff. The goal of The Leader in Me is for students to understand that they all have the essential qualities to become leaders.
