On Oct. 28, 2016 Onslow County Schools recognized community partners at its annual BASES awards reception.

The BASES program has been in effect since 1991 when OCS reached out to the community to work together to improve school facilities and educational opportunities for OCS students. They were happy to report Onslow County businesses and organizations stepped up and have continued to do so year after year offering financial support or the equivalent for scholarships, grants, advertisements, donations and equipment.

In addition many businesses and organizations have given generously of their time. On any given day one can go into a school and see volunteers reading to the students, organizations mentoring, and businesses planting gardens with students as they educate them about the environment. These are just a few of the ways they volunteer in the schools when and where needed. All we have to do is ask.

It's great that once a year we bring them all together to say thank you and we appreciate all you do!

Each year OCS also likes to recognize one or two outstanding businesses and/or organizations to be included on our “Wall of Fame.” This year there was a business and an organization. Their names have been added to a plaque which will hang with other plaques in our Central Office for all to see.

The Magnanimous Mentors has been a part of OCLC for the last five years.  The Magnanimous Mentors is made up of retired Marines that work with our young men on a weekly basis.  Major Isaiah (Ike) Johnson created this organization in Onslow County to service "youth, individual, families, and communities through coaching and mentoring".  They are not only a resource on Onslow County Learning Center’s campus, but also engage and work with students and families outside of school.

Lowes Foods is committed to giving our children every opportunity to succeed. Lowes Foods Back2Schools programs allow them to partner with our neighboring schools to improve educational opportunities for everyone.

Schools have been rewarded financially by customers linking their schools through their Fresh Rewards cards.
