The conceptual design of the new Dixon Middle school, done by Smith Sinnett Architecture, was presented to the Board of Education as part of a special workshop meeting Wednesday (Aug. 20). Here are some highlights. The building will occupy the southern end of the 40-acre site; the two-story school will span 135,000 square feet and will accommodate 950 students.   Its big box design, while pleasing to the eye, will be constructed to be functional and economical. A Design Task Force including students, teachers and administrators were active participants in the conceptual design. The building’s footprint allows for expansion including the addition of an auditorium extending from the gymnasium. As per a request by a group of Dixon Middle School students last year, there will be an area outside for students to eat and gather. Provided all goes according to plan, the school will open in August 2017.
