Blue Creek Elementary receives North Carolina Beautiful award

Blue Creek Elementary was selected by North Carolina Beautiful to receive a special beautification prize of 50 azaleas for use in the group's 2009 beatification projects.  The award is part of the North Carolina Beautiful's 24th annual Azalea Celebration, which rewards groups for improving their communities through creative landscape projects.

Jenny Johnson, 2nd Grade teacher at Blue Creek Elementary, submitted the entry on behalf of the school.  The winning project is to beautify the area around the school's library in the hopes of someday creating an outdoor classroom space.  The azaleas will be placed on the perimeter of the area to create a great place to go outdoors and read, teach, and learn.

North Carolina Beautiful has focused on merit-based programs which provide hands-on experience in preserving resources and promoting constructive action toward environmental stewardship.
