The National Career Academy Coalition has designated Jacksonville High School's Health Science Academy as a Certified academy. The notification received from the Coalition citing this designation stated, "...it is evident that the passion of the school teams, coupled with the support of the school administration, and the intense focus on parents and community, has created a sustaining program for students, parents and the community."
The Health Science Academy is in its third year at Jacksonville High School and is one of five Smaller Learning Communities on the campus. Through the Academy, students will be able to:
Make health career decisions suited to their individual needs, aptitudes, abilities, and career objectives.
Develop pre-professional or pre-technical foundation that supports successful pursuit of advanced education and/or entry-level employment in a health career.
Develop a foundation of basic skill and knowledge required for employment in a changing health care environment including:
Science & mathematics
Professional behavior & ethics
Analysis and problem solving
Establish healthy lifestyle behaviors.
Additionally, students will have the opportunity to gain real-life experiences through participation in off-campus student medical internships and shadowing.
