Letter to Parents

The State of North Carolina has entered a heightened surveillance stage resulting from the presence of a swine flu virus that is making people sick in several states, and also in Mexico.  On Thursday, the Onslow County Health Department received notification of a "probable" case of the H1N1 influenza (swine flu) in an Onslow County resident.  The Onslow County schools have not reported any probable cases of the H1N1 influenza among its student or staff population.

School administrators and school nurses are taking precautionary measures to make students and staff aware of the situation and reiterating the importance of good hygiene during the school day and at home.  This is being communicated through all classes.  For additional information, parents may get additional information at http://www.cdc.gov/, http://www.ncpublichealth.com/, or contacting the CARE LINE at 1-800-662-7030.

The Onslow County Schools is in close communication with local health department officials and will continue to monitor the situation at the school level.
