Richlands Primary, "Nickels for Nets"

News Image

Richlands Primary was highlighted in the December 2008 edition of Global Updates from World View newsletter.  Second grade teacher Gena Misciagno along with her students participated in a class project called "Nickels for Nets".  Money collected will be sent to Nothing But Nets, an organization working to reduce malaria-related deaths by purchasing bed nets for African families.  Malaria is carried by mosquitoes and is a leading killer of children in Africa.  Bed nets cost $10 and can last for up to four years. The class has raised $240.00 so far with final number not yet determined.  This will purchase 24 nets!

In addition to collecting nickels for this worthy cause, Mrs. Misciagno took this opportunity to teach the students about the African people, their culture, and about malaria.  Click on the link to see the newsletter in its entirety.
