On May 14, 2014, the North Carolina Commission for Public Health approved new vaccine requirements as documented in NC Administrative Code 10A NCAC 41A, o0401 Dosage and Age Requirements for Immunization. The changes were made to more closely align NC with current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) recommendations. These changes took effect on July 1, 2015. Seventh-grade students will need to get a Tdap vaccine as well as the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV). OCS is legally required to exclude students who do not have documentation showing they received the required vaccinations within 30 calendar days of the first day of school.

All these vaccines are available at the Onslow County Health Department on Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

For more information about these changes and the immunization schedule for children and adults, call the Health Department at 910-347-2154 or visit www.onslowcountync.gov/health.

To learn more about these vaccines and the diseases they prevent visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at www.cdc.gov/vaccines or the North Carolina Immunization Branch website at www.immunize.nc.gov

Additional information about required immunizations is available from the school nurse, or from the Division of Student Services.  They can be reached at (910) 455-2211.
