In 2007, the Onslow County Board of Education approved a comprehensive tiered technology initiative to assist our teachers and students with the state focus on Future-Ready Students for the 21st Century. This three-tiered approach addresses teacher productivity in Tier I, with a laptop for each teacher.  Schools have been addressing classroom productivity in Tier II with the addition of instructional technology such as LCD projectors, interactive whiteboards and document cameras.  Student productivity is the focus of Tier III, and puts technology in the hands of students - including handheld devices, netbooks and tablets.

Since March 2011, the Onslow County School system has been able to create 35 Tier III classrooms.  Recipients submitted proposals outlining how they would use the instructional technology in their classrooms.
